Career Journey

1. The Rough Start (2006–2007)

She made her acting debut in the Telugu thriller Photo (2006), which went unnoticed. Her second Telugu film, Premalekha Raasa, also failed to make an impact. At this stage, she struggled to find footing in the industry.

2. The Breakthrough: Kattradhu Thamizh (2007)

Her career turned around when director Ram cast her in the Tamil psychological thriller Kattradhu Thamizh. Her portrayal of "Anandhi" was hauntingly realistic and earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. This film established her as a serious actress in Kollywood.

3. Stardom and Critical Acclaim (2010–2014)

This period marked her peak, with several iconic performances:

  • Angadi Theru (2010): Playing a salesgirl in a retail store, her raw performance won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil.

  • Engaeyum Eppothum (2011):    Her role as the bold and practical "Manimegalai" won her a second consecutive Filmfare Best Actress Award.

  • Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2013): She made a triumphant return to Telugu cinema as "Seetha," starring alongside Mahesh Babu and Venkatesh.

  • Geethanjali (2014): A horror-comedy where she played a dual role, earning her the prestigious Nandi Award (Andhra Pradesh State Award).

Personal Life and Resilience

Anjali is known for her mental strength. In 2013, she faced a widely publicized personal controversy involving a legal dispute with her aunt and a director, which led to a brief hiatus. However, she fought through the legal and emotional turmoil to make a successful comeback, proving her resilience in a competitive industry.

Fun Fact: Unlike many actors who use voice-over artists, Anjali almost always dubs her own voice, which is a rarity for actresses who work across multiple South Indian languages.
